Politician Robert Riaga, popularly known as ‘Money Bior’, has responded to critics mocking his performance in the recent Kasipul Constituency by-election by flaunting his luxurious lifestyle in Nairobi’s upscale Karen suburb.

The independent candidate, who garnered 519 votes in the November 27, 2025, mini-poll, posted on Instagram on December 3, 2025, showcasing his sprawling multi-million dollar residence, complete with a massive swimming pool, expansive compound, and a luxury G-Wagon prominently displayed in the driveway.

In the post, Money Bior addressed detractors directly: “From Karen, we move with intention. Building silently, showing results loudly.

‘This is Karen sindio, usilete maneno ati ooh I got, ilikuanga votes ngapi,? ooh 500 votesati 519?, Ile ni G-Wagon, nyumba ni more than 2million dollars, flossing while swimming.” His remarks appear to counter social media ridicule over his low vote tally in the highly contested by-election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Boyd Ongondo Were of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) the winner. Returning Officer Rebecca Abwaku announced the results late Friday, November 28, 2025, confirming Were secured 16,819 votes, ahead of independent candidate Philip Nashon Aroko with 8,476 votes.

The contest involved 10 candidates, marking Kasipul as one of the most competitive parliamentary by-elections in the November 27 polls.

In a statement following the results, the IEBC commended voters for participating in the democratic process.

The Commission would like to thank our voters and stakeholders for their participation and support in the #27thNovByelections,” the body stated, expressing gratitude for the smooth conduct of the polls. The commission also recognised its staff: “IEBC would also like to recognize and appreciate our election officials for their dedication, hard work and professionalism throughout the planning and conduct of these by-elections.”

Focus on political image

The Kasipul outcome contributes to a series of by-elections nationwide, allowing political parties to gauge grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election. Money Bior’s response follows days after he issued another Instagram statement denying assault allegations.

In an official statement posted on his Instagram account, Money Bior’s team addressed a circulating online post claiming that Leaky was assaulted by the candidate’s security team, mobilizers, and coordinators.

The statement described these claims as “false, malicious, and intentionally crafted to mislead the public,” further accusing Leaky of using “an old and unrelated photograph to claim he is hospitalised, attempting to portray a picture of brutality within Hon. Money Bior’s security detail.”

“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading post circulating online… These allegations are false, malicious, and intentionally crafted to mislead the public… Hon. Robert Money Bior has consistently run a peaceful, issue-based campaign… We do not condone violence, intimidation, or any form of political thuggery… Kasipul politics is bigger than cheap propaganda. We remain focused on truth, unity, and a clean political path forward.”
