Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has questioned her removal from a government board, expressing surprise and frustration over what she described as a decision made without her knowledge or involvement.

In a post on Friday, May 1, 2026, Omanga appeared blindsided by the development, questioning the transparency and communication within state appointments.

“Apparently, I’ve just been officially removed from a board I didn’t even know I was still serving on. Impressive level of coordination, decisions being made about roles that only exist on paper lol,” she wrote on X.

Her remarks came shortly after the government formally revoked her position as a Member of the Board of Directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited.

The decision was communicated through Gazette Notice No. 6391, dated April 30, 2026, and signed by Defence Cabinet Secretary Roselinda Soipan Tuya.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section (6) (l) (e) of the State Corporations Act (Cap. 446), as read with section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence revokes the appointment of Millicent Omanga as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Shipyards Limited, with effect from the 30th April, 2026,” read part of the notice.

The revocation takes immediate effect, effectively ending a role Omanga assumed in January 2025. Notably, the Gazette Notice did not provide any reasons for the decision, leaving room for speculation and political interpretation.

The timing of the move has drawn particular attention, coming just weeks after Omanga publicly announced her departure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

During an interview on Milele Radio on April 10, 2026, she expressed disillusionment with her experience in the party.

“Na mimi nilitumika, sikujua kwamba ilikuwa kutumika kutafuta kura kwa akina mama… kumbe, ni kuadaa.” (Translation: “I was used, I didn’t know it was about being used to look for votes from women… it turns out it was deception.”)

Following her exit, Omanga aligned herself with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), a political outfit led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. In a post shared on March 19, 2026, Gachagua welcomed her to the party, describing her as “a woman in depth with developments” and emphasising DCP’s commitment to grassroots engagement and citizen-focused leadership.

Omanga, a vocal and influential figure in Nairobi politics, has also declared her intention to vie for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.

She has previously highlighted her strong performance in the 2022 polls, where she garnered over 600,000 votes, positioning herself as a formidable contender in the political landscape.
