Meru MPs pledge full support to Kenya Kwanza govt

By , November 1, 2025

Meru MPs have vowed to back President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza (KK) government to ensure the county benefits from ongoing development projects.

Speaking at a meeting on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the MPs criticised leaders from Mount Kenya West for dominating resources and projects, leaving Meru with little to show.

Igembe Central MP Daniel Kiili said Meru leaders have long been sidelined.

“Msindanganywe na hawa watu wa Mount Kenya West. Hii watu wa Mt Kenya West hatutaki watundanganye. When it comes to development, and there is leadership, they take everything,” he said.

“Alafu sisi tunaachwa ni watu wa kucheer tunakuwa ni kama wale watu wanaitangwa flower girls. Ambao wanasindikisha bibi arusi wale wanaenda honeymoon, unaenda kujishikilia nyumbani mwenyewe. Sisi hatutaki kuwa flower girls wa Mt Kenya West. It has come to a time now when we are mature enough to stand on our own feet as a Meru community.”

Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi echoed Kiili’s concerns, highlighting that projects such as the Mau Mau roads, also intended for Meru, have ended up elsewhere.

“Eti kwamba, barabara zote za Mau Mau, badala zije Meru community, ziliishia kwao. Hatuletewi barabara. Hivi sasa tunasema Wameru tumetosheka kutawaliwa vibaya. Na wakati umefika bendera ya Meru isimame. Alafu wewe unatuimbia wimbo WANTAM, WANTAM ni wapi?” he said.

Rahim Dawood, North Imenti MP, urged colleagues to remain loyal to the government rather than move to the opposition. He referenced earlier discussions with DP Kithure Kindiki, stressing that communities must claim the resources meant for them.

“Mnasema tukae kwa opposition? Lazima tukae kwa kwa serikali na vile niliambia Kithure Kindiki juzi tukiwa Irunduni, nilisema ng’ombe ikiwa iko, lazima tuikamue.”

Gachagua warns Mt Kenya

The remarks by Meru MPs come amid ongoing tensions in Mt Kenya politics. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has repeatedly accused President Ruto of attempting to weaken the Mt Kenya region politically and economically.

On October 14, 2025, Gachagua claimed Ruto’s unity deal with KANU leader Gideon Moi aimed to consolidate Rift Valley support while isolating Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gachagua described the deal as a silent war using appointments and money to divide votes and weaken communities.

On Saturday, November 1, Gachagua visited Murang’a, asking residents to provide political, defenders, to safeguard the Kikuyu community’s future. Speaking at a funeral on Saturday, he urged locals to support DCP candidates for all key positions, including MCAs, MPs, a governor, a senator, and a woman representative.

“I have only a few defenders. I cannot protect the community alone. We need loyal leaders who will not sell out to outsiders,” he said.

Gachagua also compared past cooperation with Ruto’s UDA party to attending a wedding without a car, warning that the Kikuyu must now stand firm.

“Our community must be alert. If you allow outsiders to influence us, we are done,” he said.
