Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has castigated Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege over her remarks on rigging elections.

In a rally organised by Azimio la Umoja leaders in Western, Chege, jokingly, claimed that vote-rigging is possible in the upcoming polls.

In her statement, the Murang’a county MP said “I have heard others saying we rigged, there is some truth in it. So if we managed to rig, even this one we can. They think they are the smartest.”

It is the remarks that have sparked fresh controversy in Kenya’s succession politics with Mudavadi now calling out the Jubilee party member saying the remarks were a recipe for chaos.

While addressing Kenya Kwanza supporters at Kuresoi in Nakuru County today, Mudavadi insisted that leaders from Azimio la Umoja should be the last ones to talk about rigging by virtue of claiming to preach peace through their political formation.

He said that Kenya has been grappling with challenges every electioneering period due to election malpractices.

“We cannot afford to have the election stolen. We have had problems every five years because of election malpractices. Azimio la Umoja enthusiasts should be the last ones to talk about rigging since they claim to have been preaching peace through the faction,” he said.

“Stealing elections is not only undermining democracy but also belittling the people of Kenya. That was a very regrettable, unfortunate statement. We cannot walk that path again,” he added.

Chege’s remarks have since sparked wildfire on social media, where leaders and supporters of Deputy President William Ruto are challenging her to substantiate her remarks.
