Matiang’i reveals experts’ hand in supporting Seth Panyako Malava bid

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has drummed up support for the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako in the Malava Member of Parliament (MP) by-election, slated for Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Speaking on the United Opposition campaign trail on Friday, November 21, 2025, in Malava, the Jubilee Party 2027 presidential candidate hopeful praised the track record of Panyako as a servant of the people, highlighting his record while serving as the Secretary-General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN).

Further, Mating’i revealed he deployed a team of experts who, after a fact-finding mission, informed him that the Malava Constituency by-election is one-sided, hinting that Seth Panyako will win the race with a landslide against his closest challenger.

Panyako will be on the ballot against the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa as his main opponent, all seeking to take up the seat left vacant following the death of area MP Malulu Injendi earlier in the year.

Supporting a winning candidate

”I have come from a very long journey, all the way from Kisii this morning. And let me tell you a little story because before I came here, I sent experts last week to conduct an investigation and research here in Malava. I asked them to brief me before I came…because I cannot travel such a long distance for a useless person like Ndakwa,” Matiang’i said.

”So I asked them, who will win the Malava seat? It is better to stand with someone who will win votes. They told me the person who will win the votes there is Seth Panyako,” he added.

He further promised the Malava electorate that Seth Panyako is fit for the MP job, adding that should he be elected, he will fight for the rights of workers, especially those in the health sector.

Workers’ rights champion

”We know Panyako because when we were with him in government, he pushed us very hard, defending the rights of workers in the health sector. And I am sure, because I know him, if he is elected, he will advocate for the welfare of Kenyan workers, especially in the health sector. He is a strong leader for workers,” Fred Matiang’i said.

This comes after a section of the United Opposition stormed Malava in support of Seth Panyako. They include the Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale, among others.
