Opposition storms Malava as by-election campaign enters homestretch
The United Opposition team led by the Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, on Friday, November 21, 2025, drummed up support for the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) Member of Parliament (MP) candidate, Seth Panyako, for the November 27, 2025, by-election.
Also on the campaign trail was Jubilee party 2027 presidential candidate hopeful Fred Matiang’i, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale among other notable leaders.
Altogether, the team urged Malava electorates to vote for Seth Panyako, who faces David Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) as his main challenger in the Thursday, November 27, 2025, MP race.
Confidence in Panyako

On his part, Kalonzo Musyoka predicted victory for Seth Panyako, following the huge crowd that turned up on the streets on Friday.
”Malava, umeauma! #WANTAM! Hii si sawa, tumejaa nguvu, tumejaa moyo! Let’s show our strength, our unity, and our spirit. Wananchi wa Lunyinya, msimamo wenu umeonekana! #WANTAM, na Malava inashikilia! Hii ni momentum, hii ni nguvu ya kweli!” Kalonzo said.
At the same time, Frec Matiang’i also expressed confidence in Panyako ahead of the mimi polls. ”I am confident that Seth Panyako, if elected, will stand resolutely for the rights of the people of Malava. We in Jubilee stand with our colleagues in the United Opposition to rally behind his candidacy. Let us bring it home!” the former Interior Cabinet Secretary said.
Double registration warning
Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has warned against double voter registration as the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise gains momentum.
The commission has described double registration as a serious electoral offence and assured citizens of robust safeguards to detect and prevent duplication. The notice comes after the United Opposition asked the Commission to investigate voter bribery and other electoral malpractices planned ahead of the by-election in Mbeere North Constituency.

Also, IEBC has emphasised that attempting to register more than once is punishable under the Elections Act. Biometric verification through the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS), including fingerprints and iris scans, automatically flags duplicates.
“Double registration is an electoral offence. Our system will definitely flag a person who attempts to register as a voter more than once. We urge members of the public to refrain from sharing incorrect information during the ongoing voter registration exercise.” The Commission took to X on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
