Matiang’i declares ward-by-ward campaign strategy ahead of 2027 race

By , May 26, 2026

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has unveiled an aggressive grassroots campaign strategy as he eyes the presidency in 2027.

Speaking during a Jubilee Party aspirants meeting held at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary announced that his political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election will be conducted at the ward level across the country.

Matiang’i said his focus will be on direct engagement with voters through house-to-house campaigns and structured grassroots mobilisation.

Matiang’i said the campaign will prioritise reaching voters at the lowest administrative units, arguing that real political engagement happens at the grassroots.

He noted that the strategy will involve moving from ward to ward, meeting residents directly, and engaging them in discussions about leadership and governance.

Confidence in political readiness

The former CS also dismissed claims that he is inexperienced in politics, insisting that he is fully prepared for the demands of the campaign.

He said he is taking the political contest seriously and is not approaching it casually.

He added that he believes in doing things properly and systematically, emphasising discipline and structure in his political approach.

“I am not in a hurry, kwasababu niliacha kazi yangu World Bank kuja kutafuta kura. Na sikuja kutafuta kura kwa kuchezacheza. Mimi mnajua sifanyangi kazi nusu nusu na ushenzi namna hiyo. I believe in doing things properly,” Matiang’i said.

Message to rivals

Matiang’i took a swipe at critics who have questioned his political style, saying he is ready to confront opponents directly at the grassroots level.

He challenged rivals to prepare for direct engagement with voters across the country, saying campaigns will no longer be limited to political rallies and urban centres.

“So, I am here, I am available nataka tufanye maneno. Nawaambia wale mko kwa kijiji, wale mko mahali mko mnataka kupanga, this campaign is going to be ward-based. We will drive this campaign at ward level. We will move house to house. Na wale ambao wanapenda kuniambia ati ooh, huyu hajui siasa, tutakutana kwa kijiji,” he said.

Grassroots focus ahead of 2027

The former CS said his campaign will rely heavily on direct voter contact, particularly in rural areas where he believes political outcomes are ultimately decided.

He urged aspirants within the party to adopt similar strategies of grassroots mobilisation, arguing that national politics must be anchored on ward-level organisation.

Matiang’i’s remarks come amid increased political activity within the Jubilee Party and broader opposition formations as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

His growing visibility and structured mobilisation efforts are expected to intensify competition in key regions as political realignments continue to take shape.

He has been strengthening the Jubilee Party grassroots by opening new offices, with the latest having been the Narok office.

Matiang’i has since pledged to work with leaders across the political divide in a push to build what he described as a more united, fair, and inclusive Kenya.

The former CS, in a statement shared via his official X account on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, said he was ready to collaborate with leaders and movements from different political formations, including the United Opposition and the Linda Mwananchi movement.

He added that his focus would be on fostering national unity and creating equal opportunities for all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation.
