Maragua MP Mary Wamaua breaks ties with Gachagua, pledges loyalty for Ruto

Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua has publicly distanced herself from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and declared her unwavering support for President William Ruto.
Speaking during President Ruto’s development tour in Murang’a County on Thursday, April 3, 2025, Wamaua made a dramatic political about-turn, acknowledging that she had made a momentary misstep in the past.
“Professor Kithure Kindiki is my good friend. Right from November, we were talking with Kindiki, and he is here. Your Excellency, since December, we had started talking, and I told you that you are my friend, even though I slipped a little,” Wamaua stated.
Previously, Wamaua had been a close ally of Gachagua and was among the MPs who opposed his impeachment process.

At the time, she expressed her regret over Gachagua being pushed out of office for his strong advocacy for unity in the Mt Kenya region, calling for careful handling of the special motion.
After Gachagua’s impeachment, Wamaua continued to support him, and the two made several public appearances together, including a church function on February 2, 2025, where she criticized calls for the resignation of former Public Service CS Justin Muturi by government allies.
Loyalty to Ruto
However, months later, while likening her loyalty to the biblical relationship between Ruth and Naomi, she emphasized her loyalty to Ruto’s leadership.
“The people who elected me have spoken. It’s like Ruth and Naomi – ‘Where you go, I go; whoever you call your God, I call him God; and whoever you call your president, I also call my president’,” she declared amid cheers from the crowd.

The legislator reaffirmed her work ethic, stating that she is ready to support Ruto’s agenda and unite Murang’a leaders, emphasizing the need for collaboration rather than division.
“My job is to ensure that, as Murang’a County, we unite. There is no need to sideline others, except for those who refuse to work together. Your Excellency, I am here; use me as your right-hand person as we push forward the development of Maragua and Murang’a County,” she added.
Wamaua further defended Ruto’s leadership, urging Kenyans to allow the President to complete his five-year term before passing judgment on his performance.
“After five years, let’s stop saying this chicken doesn’t lay eggs when its time hasn’t come. Like a chicken, you know how many days it takes. The MPs who were elected have a five-year term; we are only halfway through. Ruto is in his last lap; let’s give him a chance to work. After five years, we will look at his scorecard,” she stated.
Ruto’s welcome
President Ruto warmly welcomed Wamaua’s declaration, praising her work ethic while subtly criticizing his former deputy.

In a thinly veiled jab at Gachagua, he questioned why Wamaua had previously associated with individuals he described as unproductive.
“Wamaua, truly this woman is hardworking. I was wondering what she was doing with people who cause division and don’t know how to work. Shouldn’t she walk with us so we can work together?” Ruto remarked. “Haven’t we agreed to work together? How many agree that Wamaua should work with us to serve the people of Maragua”?
