Former Chief Justice David Maraga has revealed when he plans to unveil a political party with which he is to run for the presidency in the 2027 polls.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Maraga indicated that his team was in the process of working on the constitution of the said party to align with his manifesto for the people of Kenya.

“It is important to have a party; there is one in which we are looking at its constitution and amending it appropriately to suit our vision in the manifesto,” Maraga said.

End of the year

Asked when the party will be unveiled, Maraga said: “Perhaps towards the end of the year.”

The former CJ equally observed that, based on the political environment in the country, he may opt to vie for president under a coalition of like-minded parties.

“I will run on a political party or a coalition of parties; in fact, the latter is most likely because I have already got people who are in several parties and they have expressed an interest in supporting my bid,” the former CJ noted.

He believes that he is the right person to right the wrongs in the country and reset the country back to its better days.

Right man for the job

“We need this country to be reset back to constitutionalism. Quite a number of corporations have shut down their operations and gone to other countries; some of them have downsized operations because of poor management of our affairs,” Maraga stated.

“I believe I am the person who can turn things around because I have experience in how the government operates, and sometimes, they would want to intimidate you,” he remarked.

“Sometimes, when you stand firm, you confuse them because they do not know what to do with you. I am ready to stand up to them. “

“I am not an expert in everything, but what I would want to offer to Kenyans is leadership. I would be like a captain: Get competent people in various positions in government, give them the confidence to work, authorize them to do their work, and demand results,” he added.

“What Kenyans are saying is that CJ, when you get there, please bring fundamental changes. We cannot afford to continue like this.”
