Manyora: DCP needs a secretary general like John Methu
Political analyst Herman Manyora has stated that the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) needed a person like Nyandarua Senator John Methu to serve as its secretary general.
Speaking during his daily analysis of current political happenings in the country on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the outspoken analyst showered Methu with praise following his recent appointment as the designated DCP secretary general, taking over from Hezron Obaga, who is now the party’s executive director.
Manyora stated that Methu is a young, sharp, tough, and fearless politician, qualities which he believes are the right attributes for any party secretary general. He further explained that any political party seeking to grow and remain influential must have a serious and vocal individual serving in that position.
“DCP needs a person like methu to serve as the secretary general; he is a sharp, tough, fearless young man,” he said.

To support his argument, he cited the Kenya African National Union (KANU) during its formative years when it had the late Tom Mboya as its secretary general. He also referenced the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which has previously had respected figures such as Anyang’ Nyong’o and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna serve as secretary general.
Methu DCP SG appointment
This comes just days after DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua appointed John Methu as the interim secretary general of the party.
The changes were made at the DCP party headquarters after a long National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Rigathi Gachagua further noted that Methu, since he is in the Senate courtesy of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and after advice from party lawyers, will hold the secretary general position in an acting capacity until further notice when the decision is fully ratified.
Gachagua went ahead, stating that the party will forward his name to the Registrar of Political Parties soon.
“John Methu is the designated secretary general of the DCP party; from today, he will be the DCP spokesman, and his name will soon be forwarded to the registrar of political parties for due confirmation,” he stated.
Resign from UDA?
Nyandarua Senator John Methu, while accepting his current status, refused to resign from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) despite his appointment as the secretary general of the DCP party.
He dismissed those claims, saying that such interpretations were politically motivated and not grounded in precedent.
He further argued that political history in Kenya shows leaders have previously held party positions while still serving under different political affiliations.
