A coalition of Western leaders allied with the United Opposition held their first joint campaign in Malava constituency on Friday, October 31, 2025, ahead of the by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.

Led by the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader, Eugene Wamalwa, the leaders urged voters to make an informed choice and elect the candidate agreed upon by the opposition faction.

Speaking during the rally at a local politician’s home, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale praised the decision by the outfit to present a united front against the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa.

Personal decision

Khalwale added that the decision by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate, Edgar Busiega, to step down was a personal one rather than an induced

“There is no one who has bought this young man. He has made a personal decision to step down,” he stated.

Mumias East MP Peter Salaysa also praised the decision to close ranks by the opposition brigade, hailing it as key to clinching the upcoming polls.

The development comes after the DAP-K and DCP brokered a deal where Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Edgar Busiega Mwanga officially withdrew from the Malava Constituency parliamentary race, declaring his support for DAP-K’s Seth Panyako.

DCP-DAP-K Merger

DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala confirmed the merger on October 30, 2025. The deal is considered part of a broader plan to unite opposition parties ahead of the November 27, 2025, by-election, where Panyako will face UDA’s David Ndakwa.

The withdrawal marks a coordinated effort by the United Opposition coalition, comprising DAP-K, Wiper, PLP, DCP, and DP, to consolidate support behind a single candidate. Cleophas Malalah described the decision as a show of unity within the Western Kenya political bloc.

Umoja ya Waluhya haifaii kuchezewa mara nyingine. Jamii yetu imekuwa ya kutengwa na kuonewa, lakini tumesema kwa sababu sisi wote tunaangazia kuweka jamii yetu pamoja, we must lead by example, and mambo ya ugomvi badala ya unity tunatupilia mbali leo,” Malalah said.
