Malala pleads with Kalonzo to join Ruto’s call for talks
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has asked Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join President William Ruto and his Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition co-principal Raila Odinga in the national dialogue.
Speaking on Saturday, July 20, 2024, Malala noted that the Wiper leader should channel his patriotism by joining the government’s efforts to promote national unity to tame the sustained anti-government protests.
“Ningependa kuomba kiongozi wa Wiper Kalonzo Musyoka, afanye kitendo cha uzalendo na ajiunge na viongozi wengine kuhakikisha kwamba tumeokoa Kenya yetu,” he said.
Malala added that it would be disappointing if the Wiper leader fails to join other leaders in the national course and support those protesting against the Ruto-led regime.
“Rais William Ruto ameonyesha ishara ya kutaka kueka Kenya pamoja. Itakua makosa sana kama kiongozi wa hadhi ya Kalonzo atajiunga na wale ambao wanataka nchi yetu ichomeke na isiwe na utangamano,” he added.
Earlier, Kalonzo had declared his stand distancing himself from the Kenya Kwanza discussions on national unity.
Addressing the matter, Kalonzo declared that as Azimio constituent parties they were abstaining from the talks, citing concerns over the past actions of the regime which have resulted in dire consequences such as corruption, tribalism, and the burden of harsh financial legislation from the 2023/2024 Finance Bill.
“As Azimio constituent parties, the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), Jubilee Party, DAP-Kenya Party, Party of National Unity (PNU), and Narc-Kenya reiterate our earlier and unchanged position that we shall not participate in or support the proposed KenyaKwanza-led Broad-Based Government of National Unity,” Kalonzo said on Friday, July 19, 2024.
“This is a betrayal of the Kenyan people, particularly Gen Z and millennials, who have paid the ultimate price to rid this country of the disastrous Kenya Kwanza regime, their harsh taxes (Finance Bill 2023/2024), corruption, tribalism, unemployment, and the continued high cost of living.”
