United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Cleophas Malala is cheering on President William Ruto’s charade that the opposition is undermining his government.

In scattershot efforts to evade accountability, Malala on Friday, January 12, 2024, refashioned the evidence and claimed that this time the opposition is using the Law Society of Kenya(LSK) to fight the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He cites the society’s recent protest arguing that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presence was evidence that the union was in cahoots with the opposition.

“The @LawSocietyofKe should exercise political impartiality and stop colluding with the opposition to undermine the government,” Malala stated.

Malala was speaking in Tharaka Nithi County during the burial of Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki’s father-in-law, James Njagi Mberia.

This comes after Ruto claimed that the opposition was sabotaging his plan during his New Year’s address to the nation.

On Friday, LSK held a protest against Ruto’s consistent criticism of the judiciary at the Supreme Court Grounds in Nairobi before proceeding along Parliament Road to the Office of the President.

‘Ruto must go’ chants filled the air as the advocates aired their concerns against the President.

LSK initially called out the president and urged him to refrain from undermining the judiciary. According to the lawyer’s body, the president’s remarks are akin to public incitement against the judiciary, which they feel would be detrimental to the constitutional order.

Ruto’s comments also drew the ire of East African Judges and Magistrates (EAMJA), who said they were deeply concerned with Kenya’s Head of State’s attack on the judiciary.

“EAMJA wishes to remind the Kenyan government of its commitment to various regional, continental, and international instruments that underscore the importance of preserving the independence of the judiciary.

“EAMJA underscores the significance of addressing any grievances against judicial officers or their decisions within an acceptable framework that enhances the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary.

“Any concerns or disputes must be handled through established legal channels, respecting the principles of due process and the separation of powers,” EAMJA said in their protest statement.

Malala’s statement proves that the Kenya Kwanza lawmakers are seemingly coalescing into a movement determined to exploit a manufactured crisis for broader political gains instead of nurturing an accountable administration.
