United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has defended Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi from an onslaught following his recent remarks which a section of leaders have termed demeaning.

What Sudi said

In a quick rebuttal, Sudi had hit back at Malala over his gag order where he described the UDA Secretary-General as an elevated MCA.

“Elevated MCA suffering from illusory superiority, thinking he matches Raphael Tuju’s calibre,” Sudi wrote on X.

Sudi’s statement sparked uproar across the political divide with some leaders reprimanding the Kapseret lawmaker for demeaning the MCA post. Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa and Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai were among the leaders who castigated Sudi over his statement.

However, Malala has come out to calm the aggrieved parties insisting that it was not Sudi who sent out the degrading statement. Malala blamed Sudi’s social media managers who insisted must be held accountable to avoid ruining Sudi’s reputation.

Speaking on Thursday, May 30, 2024, the former Kakamega Senator insisted that Sudi is a respectable leader who cannot degrade Members of the County Assembly.

“I laughed and realised that it was not the MP (Sudi) who sent out that statement responding to me,” Malala stated.

“I would like to ask the MP (Sudi) to talk with his social media managers because they are misusing his account. I’m convinced that Oscar Sudi is a respectable leader and also my friend. It is not him who wrote that post, I know his handwriting, “Malala insisted.

Malala thus pleaded with the MCAs and other lawmakers to ignore the statement.

“So I would like to request the MCAs who are so much agitated and with Oscar Sudi for demeaning them. But I would like to tell the MCAs that it was not Oscar Sudi who wrote the statement,” Malala said during an interview on a local TV station.

“MCAs, just ignore that. It was not his personal feeling,” he pleaded.

Cracks in UDA

Malala’s gag order exposed the ruling party to a possible fallout with a section of the leaders remaining adamant. Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga called for Malala’s ouster, insisting that he does not add value to UDA.

“Ag SG Malala in UDA is like a square peg in a round hole. He doesn’t fit. I have said it before and I repeat, we must get rid of him in the coming UDA elections,” Kahiga stated.

Gathoni Wamuchomba also hit back at Malala insisting that she will not be cowed.

President William Ruto and his deputy Gachagua are yet to respond and give orders over the simmering fallout in UDA.
