The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) deputy leader, Cleophas Malala, has stated that the party is not a regional outfit but a national party.

Speaking at a local TV station on Monday, June 23, 2025, Malala stated that the DCP party leadership has representatives from all the regions of the country.

“I heard someone insinuating that the DCP Party is a one-region party. No! I want to demystify that,  because our party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, comes from the Mountain. I am the deputy party leader from Western; our SG, Hezeron Obanga, comes from Kisii, and our organising secretary, Andrew Kiplimo Muge, is from Meru,  and therefore it is a national party,” he declared.

Furthermore, Malala has defended Gachagua for spending most of his time in the Mt. Kenya region, arguing that one must begin with one’s hometown to build any reasonable political muscle.

‘Of course, every party must have a stronghold. Politically speaking, yes, my party leader comes from the mountain. Most of his previous engagements were in the Mountain, but as you can see, we have started changing tactics. You must start with your hometown to build any reasonable political muscle. And that’s why he spends most of his time building a strong political base,” he added.

Additionally, he has stated that the party will be moving to all parts of the country before embarking on its official launch on July 7, 2025.

“Recently, you’ve seen him in the Ukambani area, Mombasa, and Taita Taveta, all the way to Malindi. This week, we will be visiting Embu, then Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Kisii, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, and Busia. And then we will come back on July 7, 2025, to launch our party,” he stated.
