Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, fingering his administration for failing in its mandate to live up to the expectations of its citizen.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Thursday, April 24, 2025, the lawyer refuted claims of his onslaught on the government being politically motivated as he cited the case of the stalled Thwake Dam project.

“The current regime has failed in many facets. Take an example of the Thwake Dam. Former President Uhuru allocated Ksh36.5 billion to the construction of the dam and the work was nearing completion with only six percent remaining when Uhuru left office,” he opined.

“Unfortunately, the project stalled after Uhuru exited office. I followed up on the matter but was not given satisfactory answers,” Maanzo added.

Maanzo also singled out some of the president’s appointees in crucial government positions, who he says lack the competency to execute their roles effectively.

“Thwake Dam is just an example of several projects across the country. Many Cabinet Secretaries do not understand their mandate; the PSs too. Ruto knows how much we are losing as a nation. We collect a lot of money through taxes that ends up getting lost to corruption. The problem is corruption and lack of priority, ” he stated.

Maanzo thus states that Ruto’s position is now untenable as Kenyans have already made their minds over his tenure.

The senator’s remarks follows after he took issue with Ruto’s frequent regional development tours, arguing that they are an unnecessary drain on public resources.

Speaking on a local media station on Monday, March 31, 2025, Maanzo stated that the funds used for the president’s travel across the country could be better spent on essential development projects.

“Here we are very wasteful when the president moves around, totally unnecessarily in the country. All that money you are going to use to visit that region is enough to do all the roads,” Maanzo stated.

The senator pointed out that key agricultural areas, including parts of Eastern, Central, and Northern Kenya, lack proper road networks, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets and processing plants.

He cited Makueni County, where mango farmers struggle with poor roads, and Central Kenya, where dairy farmers face challenges delivering milk due to inadequate infrastructure.

“In some parts of Eastern Kenya or even Central Kenya or even Northern Kenya, the farmers need roads… There are no roads in such places. And there are no feeder roads to that establishment,” he added.
