Linda Mwananchi raises alarm over IEBC election system procurement
By Emmanuel Rono, July 9, 2026The Linda Mwananchi movement has stated that officials within the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are under pressure to procure an election management system designed to favour President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the opposition faction claimed it has received information indicating that staff in the electoral body’s procurement department are being pushed to purchase an election management system that would give the government an opportunity to manipulate the 2027 polls.

“The dent on the credibility of the election agency is in fact in sharp focus following information we have received to the effect that staff in its procurement department are being pushed to purchase an election management system friendly to Ruto’s fraudulent desires, thereby giving the regime access to enable it to manipulate the 2027 elections,” the statement read.
Election law violations ahead Ol Kalou by-election
The coalition further accused the IEBC of failing to act against what it described as election law violations ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election in Nyandarua County.
According to Linda Mwananchi, the commission has remained silent despite misuse of state resources to influence voters, a move it said had raised concerns over the electoral body’s independence.

“Meanwhile, the IEBC watches these violations of the election law silently, comfortable to be seen as an appendage of the executive and doing nothing to assure anxious Kenyans about not only the Ol Kalou by-election, but also the bigger matter of the 2027 General Elections,” the statement said.
The movement further expressed confidence that President Ruto would be defeated in the next General Election regardless of what it termed as attempts to interfere with the electoral process.
“Ruto should know that no matter what tricks he tries, he will lose the 2027 elections in a way that will make his rigging schemes meaningless,” it stated.
Ol Kalau DCP candidate faults IEBC
This comes as the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, accused the IEBC of failing to act on what he has said are campaign malpractices happening ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, despite political parties committing themselves to the Electoral Code of Conduct.

Speaking in an interview with Kameme FM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Kamau said his team had raised concerns with the electoral commission over incidents of alleged voter bribery and the destruction of campaign materials but said no action had been taken.
“We signed the Electoral Code of Conduct, and we committed to abide by it. I wonder why the IEBC has not taken any action. We are seeing cases of voter bribery in broad daylight, and our billboards have been destroyed, but despite raising concerns, no action has been taken. When we signed the code of conduct, we expected it to be enforced,” Kamau said.
