Linda Mwananchi’s team, led by Siaya County Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, have stormed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters demanding institutional integrity.

In a statement on his official X account on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Orengo accused the government of using the police as a political hit squad to silence the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

“Today, alongside@HEBabuOwino Owino we visited the DCI Headquarters in Nairobi. We refuse to let the police be used as a political hit squad to silence the Linda Mwananchi Movement,” Orengo said.

On his part, Orengo expressed fear of the Constitution being shredded with the use of the police in what he described as a private militia.

At the same time, Orengo went on to say that the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja must reclaim his mandate, further explaining that while the government handles policy, operations belong strictly to the police

“When the Executive treats the police like a private militia, the Constitution is shredded in real time and the rule of law collapses. Inspector General Douglas Kanja must reclaim his mandate immediately because while the government handles policy, operations belong strictly to the police,” Orengo explained.

The Linda Mwananchi leaders further condemned what they described as secretive deployments of DCI officers from Nairobi to Kisumu, noting that the move by the DCI is not about law enforcement; instead, it is about sabotage.

In addition, Orengo warned Police officers against narrowing the scope of powers while demanding institutional integrity as they protect members of the public.

“These secretive deployments of DCI from Nairobi to Kisumu prove this isn’t about law enforcement it’s about sabotage. We are not asking for favors; we are demanding institutional integrity. The police must protect Kenyan citizens, not the narrow interests of the powers that be,” Orengo said.

Orengo speaks of intimidation

His remarks come days after Orengo issued a stern warning to individuals he accused of plotting violence against Linda Mwananchi, declaring that efforts to intimidate the movement’s activities would not succeed.

Orengo made his remarks shortly after attending the funeral service of MP James Nyikal’s father, the late Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, in Ridore village, Seme Sub-county, in Kisumu County.

In a post on his official X account on Saturday, May 2, 2026, Orengo condemned a group of rowdy individuals who stormed the burial service while chanting political slogans.

“It is both shameful and a national disgrace that the State and its luckys could disrupt a solemn send off so rattled by the people’s unity that it resorted to unleashing goons,” Orengo said.
