Several leaders associated with the opposition-leaning Linda Mwananchi movement on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, joined a high-profile national dialogue convened by former Chief Justice David Maraga at Ufungamano House.

The move has signalled a growing engagement between the movement and broader efforts to shape an alternative political agenda ahead of the 2027 general election.

The forum, dubbed “State of the Nation: The Way Forward Dialogue”, brought together politicians, governance advocates, youth representatives, and civil society actors to discuss the country’s political, economic, and governance challenges.

Among those in attendance were Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo, all of whom are closely associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Caleb Amisi backs Maraga-Sifuna possibility

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi announced his arrival at the dialogue through a post on X, describing the forum as an important platform for discussing the country’s future.

“I have arrived at Ufungamano House for the State of the Nation: The Way Forward Dialogue convened by CJ Emeritus David Maraga. Looking forward to engaging on the pressing issues facing our nation,” Amisi wrote.

The legislator later, while speaking at the meeting, suggested that if Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna does not secure a presidential bid, he would only support him serving as deputy to Maraga.

“If Sifuna is not a presidential candidate, then the only person I will allow him to deputise is Maraga,” Amisi said.

Caroli Omondi praises Maraga’s UGM Party

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, who serves as a spokesperson for Linda Mwananchi, used the platform to praise Maraga’s political vehicle, the United Green Movement Party (UGM Party).

“UGM Party is the strongest party with the strongest candidate whose values are anchored on integrity and accountability,” Omondi said during the meeting.

Maraga has increasingly positioned himself as a governance reform advocate, with integrity, accountability, constitutionalism, and the rule of law forming the central pillars of his political messaging as he seeks to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.

Oundo calls for complete political change

Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo delivered one of the strongest political messages of the day, urging young Kenyans to pursue comprehensive political change in the 2027 elections.

“Young people, in 2027, do not change the monkeys and keep the forest. You must get rid of the regime entirely,” Oundo said.

He argued that Kenya’s challenges require systemic transformation rather than merely replacing individual leaders.

“I have seen today that change in Kenya is possible because young people have not given up,” he added.

Ties between Maraga and opposition figures

The attendance of multiple Linda Mwananchi-affiliated leaders at the dialogue is likely to attract political attention, coming at a time when discussions about opposition unity continue to intensify.

The Linda Mwananchi movement, which has featured prominently in recent political rallies led by figures including Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, and Babu Owino, has increasingly positioned itself as a platform advocating governance reforms, accountability, and citizen-centred leadership.
