Linda Mwananchi in Kisii: Faith Odhiambo says Ruto is joking as GBV persists

By , July 3, 2026

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has criticised President William Ruto’s administration over its response to gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide, saying the government has not done enough to protect women and children.

Speaking during a Linda Mwananchi rally in Mosocho, Kitutu Chache South Constituency, on Friday, Odhiambo called for urgent measures to tackle the increasing cases of GBV and ensure justice for victims.

“Ruto is joking while gender-based violence continues; this government is doing nothing for the citizens. Tunataka kuona mikakati ikiendelea,” she said.

Tumeona vile wamama na watoto wetu wameuliwa na maneno ya GBV, tunaendelea kuona yakoendelea. Je wamefanya nini? Yangu waweke taskforce. Tunatoka kuona kesi zikifikishwa DPP, na kesi ambazo zinahairishwa kotini zitiliwe mkazo kuhakikisha kila mtu amepata justice.”

Odhiambo said the government should establish a dedicated taskforce to address GBV and ensure investigations and prosecutions are concluded without unnecessary delays.

Calls for faster justice

The former LSK President said victims and their families continue to wait for justice as some cases remain unresolved in the courts.

She called for closer coordination between investigators, prosecutors and the Judiciary to ensure GBV cases are handled expeditiously.

Her remarks come as the country continues to grapple with cases of gender-based violence and femicide that have sparked public concern and calls for stronger interventions.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, recently described GBV and femicide as a persistent challenge affecting access to justice.

Speaking during a community dialogue in Eldoret on May 29, 2026, Ingonga said justice should be experienced by citizens in police stations, hospitals, courts and communities, adding that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was implementing measures under its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan to strengthen access to justice.

At the Kisii rally, Odhiambo also contributed Ksh50,000 towards a women’s empowerment programme.

Mimi natoa Ksh50k isaidie kina mama hapa,” she said.

She urged supporters to continue attending the movement’s activities across the Gusii region.

Tuko hapa grao Mosocho, warmup kidogo kabla tuingie Jijini Kisii. Get ready! Get ready!”

Linda Mwananchi tour continues

Friday’s rally was part of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s Kisii-Nyamira tour, which has brought together opposition leaders and supporters for public engagements on governance, constitutionalism and accountability.

The movement is expected to hold additional meetings in Keroka Town, Keumbu and Kisii Town.

Odhiambo joined the Linda Mwananchi movement in June and has since appeared alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and other leaders during its public engagements.

Sifuna welcomed her to the movement after her entry, describing her as part of the growing team pushing for governance reforms.

Before joining the movement, Odhiambo represented protesters in court during the 2024 and 2025 demonstrations and has spoken on constitutional rights, access to justice and the rule of law.

Her appearance in Kisii came as several opposition leaders, including former Chief Justice David Maraga and Governor James Orengo, addressed supporters during the regional tour ahead of planned engagements in other parts of the country.

The Linda Mwananchi movement has continued to organise forums centred on governance, accountability, constitutionalism and citizen participation as political activities begin to gather pace ahead of the 2027 General Election.
