Linda Mwananchi announces date for Thika rally

By , June 2, 2026

The Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement has set Sunday, June 14, as the date for its rally in Thika.

In a statement shared on its social media pages on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, two days after its Machakos County edition, the movement, through its leaders, urged supporters to turn up in large numbers for the highly anticipated gathering.

“Thika, save the date!” Sifuna said

Linda Mwananchi’s popularity

The announcement comes at a time when Linda Mwananchi has been traversing different parts of the country in search of support and popularising its movement.

The latest rallies were held in Machakos Town and Mlolongo, events that attracted huge crowds who came to witness what TIFA recently ranked as one of the fastest-growing political movements in the country.

Linda Mwananchi’s conflicting itinerary

The team has also earmarked visits to Migori County, Kisii Town, and Meru, where they are expected to be hosted by former impeached Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who recently threw her weight behind the movement.

However, Linda Mwananchi’s itinerary in recent weeks has appeared inconsistent, with different leaders issuing varying schedules for upcoming activities.

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, a key figure in the Sifuna-led movement, had previously intimated that the team would hold a retreat within three weeks after the Migori chapter.

The announcement of the Thika rally, however, comes within the same period he had earlier referenced, creating some confusion among supporters regarding the movement’s schedule.

Which way, Linda Mwananchi?

As its popularity continues to grow, Linda Mwananchi is also grappling with several questions from Kenyans regarding its ultimate political objectives.

Among the issues frequently raised are what exactly the movement seeks to achieve, whether it intends to field a presidential candidate in the next general election, and who among its leaders would be best placed to vie for the country’s top seat.

Richard Onyonka recently urged Kenyans to remain patient, stating that the movement is still in the planning phase and will soon unveil its roadmap.

He further argued that it would be premature to reveal a presidential candidate at this stage, should the movement eventually decide to field one, claiming that such a candidate could become a target of intimidation and harassment by the current regime.

Nonetheless, Onyonka maintained that after the Migori rally, the movement would provide Kenyans with a clear roadmap before embarking on the next phase of its nationwide tours.

The developments come at a time when recent TIFA polls ranked Edwin Sifuna’s presidential prospects at 10 per cent. The survey also highlighted the growing popularity of the Linda Mwananchi movement, giving it a favourable rating of 73 per cent compared to the defunct ODM Linda Ground initiative, which was rated at 23 per cent.
