Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has called out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Chief Justice David Maraga following their remarks on President William Ruto’s direct profiteering from the recent oil scandal.

While owning up to his past outrage over fuel prices, Ledama detailed that following a close check into facts about fuel pricing in the country, he quickly adjusted his opinions on the fuel pricing.

The Narok senator made his remarks on Saturday, April 18, 2026, on his official X account while dismissing Ruto’s involvement in global shipping costs outside the G2G framework.

“So YES… YES… I was in that crowd making noise about fuel prices. Then the facts came out AND unlike some people, I adjusted. That’s what thinking adults do. Fuel prices go up, and suddenly it’s outrage season again. But here’s the reality: progress isn’t free,”Ledama stated

“You either pay for it, or keep whining from the sidelines while others move forward. Then Maraga and Riggy G jump in, shouting that the president is “profiting.” Profiting from what exactly?,” he explained

On his part, the legislator maintained that President Ruto does not set the fuel prices, nor does he control global shipping costs outside the G2G framework.

While slamming the two leaders, Olekina demanded that they provide receipts with factual information indicating Ruto’s direct profit from the recently witnessed fuel scandal.

@WilliamsRuto doesn’t set Platts prices. He doesn’t control global shipping costs outside the G2G framework. So what are we dealing with here, facts or fiction? If there’s profit, show the receipts,” Ledama stated.

“If not, stop recycling cheap political slogans. And spare us the selective amnesia. THOSE same TAXES are building the roads you proudly drive on to your gated homes. Or is the plan to scrap them and go back to potholes, gridlock, and endless excuses?,”he added.

Gachagua, Maraga remarks

OleKina’s remarks come a day after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Chief Justice David Maraga accused President William Ruto of directly profiteering from the recent oil scandal alongside other political beneficiaries.

The two, who spoke during separate functions on Friday, April 17, 2026, blamed the government for creating what they termed “avenues” that have increased the cost of living and for not doing enough to deal with the situation.

Gachagua, who spoke in Kiambu County, faulted the government for what he labelled as piecemeal interventions following a downward review of fuel prices by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), attributing the high cost of living—beyond the reach of many Kenyans—to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Hiyo haitoshi Kasongo, haitoshi, haitoshi. Tunataka uondoe ile shilingi arobaini uliongeza kwa bei ya mafuta ili maisha ikuwe sawasawa,” Gachagua said.

At the same time, Gachagua demanded the removal of taxes on fuel at a time when Ruto assented to the Value Added Tax (VATAmendment Bill 2026 at State House.

Kama hutaki kukutana na Wakenya ondoa ile 16% umeweka kwa mafuta. Uondoe ile shilingi 7 ya petroleum levy, na hii maneno ya G-to-G ambaye ni yako and open up the market for other players,” said Gachagua.

On the other hand, Maraga, who was speaking in Kisii County, accused President Ruto of being among the beneficiaries of the oil scandal, which he said adds to several others since 2022.

“You have seen the recent oil scandal, blatant conflict of interest they are involved in, including, sadly, the Head of State,” Maraga noted.

Maraga further accused the government of weakening institutions mandated by law in favour of political interests.

He said, “Instead of allowing Kenya Pipeline to import on behalf of the Kenyan people, he gave it to his cartels. Now what we are faced with is expensive and adulterated oil.”
