Former President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor Moses Kuria has declared that he would relocate to Afghanistan should Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka become Kenya’s president.

In a fiery interview on March 19, 2026, Kuria dismissed Kalonzo as a viable option for the country’s top job.

“Maybe people do not see it, but what is their option? Kalonzo Musyoka? Me, I’ll move to Afghanistan if Kalonzo becomes president,” Kuria said.

“Already, I know how difficult this country is. Sorry to say. He’s my friend.”

Kuria’s remarks come amid reflections on the 2027 political landscape and the opposition’s prospects.

Kalonzo’s political trajectory questioned

Kuria questioned why Kalonzo has not emerged as a front-runner in the race for the State House. He attributed it to Kalonzo’s alliances with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, having served as his running mate twice and supported him a third time.

“How come Kalonzo Musyoka is not the front runner? Have you ever asked yourself? How do you lose that advantage?” Kuria asked.

“Show me your friends, and I’ll tell you who you are,” pointing to Kalonzo’s choice of associates as a factor undermining his independent appeal, particularly in regions like Nyanza, Western, and the Coast.

Kuria also predicted Kalonzo’s path in the upcoming race: running due to base expectations, losing, and later joining the government.

“Kalonzo and Matiang’i will be on the ballot… Kalonzo will be on the ballot for one reason. First, it’s inconceivable in his place that he could be anything other than a presidential candidate… Then he’ll lose. Then what will happen? He’ll read from Baba’s book. So he’ll join the government,” he added.

Kuria also confirmed Rigathi Gachagua as President William Ruto’s campaign manager for the 2027 elections, noting, “Do you know who Ruto’s campaign manager is for 2027? Rigathi Gashagua. Yes, he’s the campaign manager.”

Kuria’s political plans

On his part, Kuria revealed that he recently shifted allegiance to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and will contest the Gatundu South parliamentary seat in 2027.

I moved to UDA. I will be the UDA parliamentary candidate for Gatundu South… I want to go back there to the grassroots, to the people who love me,” he said.

He confidently predicted UDA’s victory and joked about his influence on other MPs. Kuria said he could “buy” Mount Kenya MPs elected on opposition tickets to join his camp.
