Leaders from Kirinyaga County have renewed their call for unity in the Mt Kenya region and urged residents to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying ongoing national and county development projects can only be sustained through political stability.

Speaking on Sunday, November 17, 2025, at Mburi Primary School grounds after attending a church service in the area, area MP Robert Gichimu Githinji, Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari, and Ndia MP George Kariuki said the region stands to benefit more by backing government programmes rather than engaging in what they termed as “political noise” driven by the opposition, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gichugu MP Gichimu said leaders from the Mt Kenya region have resolved to remain united and focused on development, especially in the agricultural sector.

He noted that stabilising coffee prices remained a top priority, warning that increased cases of coffee theft in factories were threatening gains made so far.

“We are working to ensure coffee prices remain stable and farmers earn what they deserve. There have been cases of coffee theft, and we are asking authorities to act. No sober leader should be out there engaging in premature campaigns instead of protecting farmers.” Gichimu said.

He added that Gichugu Constituency is set to benefit from 95 kilometres of new roads, saying the works will ease transport for farmers and improve market access.

Political waves

The MP stressed that there were numerous ongoing projects across Kirinyaga, and urged residents not to be swayed by emerging political waves.

Ndia MP George Kariuki also defended the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the opposition has nothing constructive to offer Kenyans.

He accused some leaders of attempting to create political divisions in Mt Kenya, insisting that the region has not endorsed any individual as its political kingpin.

“Mt Kenya has never crowned anyone as kingpin. We follow development, not noise. Anyone who is not speaking about development is offering nothing to the people of Kirinyaga.” Kariuki stated

Kariuki, who is also the chairman of infrastructure, urged residents not to “follow political winds” but to support leaders who are delivering on their mandates. He said Kirinyaga must remain close to the government to ensure continued allocation of development resources.

“We will make sure Kirinyaga stays in government because that is how our people benefit. When election time comes, every leader will be judged by the work they have done, not the speeches they make,” the legislature said.

Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari said coffee farmers in the county will not be paid through the Digital Financial Services System (DFSS), arguing that Kirinyaga already has well-established cooperative societies capable of handling payments efficiently.

Gitari revealed that Kirinyaga legislators recently met with President William Ruto and the Cabinet Secretary in charge of the sector, where they agreed on mechanisms to ensure farmers’ earnings remain safe and accessible.

“As Kirinyaga MPs, we made it clear to the President that our societies are strong enough to manage farmers’ payments. Our unity as leaders has brought real benefits to Kirinyaga residents, not slogans that add no value to the common mwananchi.” Gitari said.

He urged residents to focus on development outcomes rather than being influenced by political slogans or individuals seeking regional influence without delivering tangible results.
