Kioni blames Junet, Wetang’ula over majority–minority side confusion in parliament
By Emmanuel Rono, May 13, 2026Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni has accused National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed and Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of contributing to confusion over the clear designation of majority and minority status in Parliament.
Speaking in an interview with a local station on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Kioni argued that the conduct of the two leaders has undermined clarity in parliamentary leadership roles, suggesting that the situation would have been more straightforward without what he termed as their “misbehaviour.”

According to Kioni, while the law clearly recognises the Azimio La Umoja coalition as a distinct entity from the ruling Kenya Kwanza (KK) alliance, the actions of these key figures have obscured this reality within the halls of Parliament.
“Azimio coalition is still existing, and it is recognised in law. If it wasn’t for the misbehaviour of Junet and Wetang’ula, we would have a clear position of the minority versus majority within parliament and in parliament, it is Azimo versus KK,” Kioni stated.
Confusion political landscape
Kioni insisted that, despite public perception that the opposition may be fracturing, the Azimio coalition remains a legally registered and existing institution.
He argued that the institution of Parliament is fundamentally composed of Azimio and KK members, but the conduct of certain leaders and the silence of elected members have created a confusing political landscape.

“Unfortunately, those who were elected on those tickets went and kept quiet. So people may think that Azimio is not there, but the truth is that our institution of parliament is composed of both Azimio and KK members of parliament,” Kioni said.
Registered coalition
Kioni further stated that, unlike the political landscape of 2022, the opposition now possesses a registered coalition that can serve as a structural foundation for their activities.
He identified Kalonzo Musyoka as the leader and Uhuru Kenyatta as the chairman of this grouping, expressing hope that the leadership will soon convene the opposition to provide much-needed confidence to the Kenyan public
