Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi says the purpose of forming the Pamoja African Alliance Party (PAA) is to set a strong regional base ahead of his 2027 presidential ambition.

Kingi continues to rally residents to support PAA ideologies, which he says are deeply embedded in solving the coastal problems.

On why he had to form the outfit towards his exit, Kingi said the region is strategising on how to consolidate its votes in a regional party. Party has maintained it will field candidates for all other political positions from

Ward Reps, National Assembly, Women Rep, Senator and Governor.
Last year, Kingi fell out with his ODM party leader Raila Odinga following his push for the formation of the Coast-rooted political outfit but has declared to support the latter’s presidential bid.

Addressing a rally at Vitengeni in Ganze sub-county after inspecting county projects at the weekend, Kingi told off the party critics, terming them as enemies of unity.

“I have heard many people asking why I am forming a party at the end of my two terms as governor. I, therefore want to state clearly that I am doing so because I am too young to retire and I will be vying for the presidency in 2027,”

He was accompanied by 22 MCAs, Nominated Senator Christine Zawadi, Malindi MP William Mutengo and former Malindi MP Lucas Maitha, Nairobi lawyer George Kithi and county officials eying various political seats.

Other than PAA, the region has other Coast-rooted political outfits such as Umoja Summit Political Party, Shirikisho Party, Kadu-Asili, Republican Congress Party and Communist Party of Kenya, which are in the process of forming a coalition ahead of the August 9 General Election.

So far, PAA has begun negotiations with leaders across the region to seek suitable candidates for various political seats to take on the dominant Orange party.
