Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Mount Kenya residents to reject Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua’s brand of politics, which he says is divisive.

Speaking during an empowerment drive in Laikipia West on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Kindiki urged the locals to shun divisive and coercive politics in the region.

“Watu wasituletee siasa geni hapa ya vita. Sisi sote ni jamii moja, taifa moja; na tukae kwa amani na tushindane mambo ya siasa, mwenye atapata tum-support, mwenye atakosa angojee, Mungu atamsaidia siku nyingine,” Kindiki said.

Loosely translated to: (He should not introduce a new brand of politics to us that involves violence. We all belong to the same people and the same nation. All we need to do is compete politically so that whoever wins, we support, and whoever loses can try again another time.)

Use of violence

He further stated that politics should not be about enmity, sounding a stern warning that the government would not allow people to assume power through violence.

“You should not use force and violence to divide the people along party lines. Politics is not about enmity. I want to say that we will not allow people who want to assume power through violence and terrorizing citizens,” Kindiki remarked.

The remarks come just days after Gachagua cut short his two-month tour of the United States to come back and focus on politics.

Expected back in Kenya

“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party DCP in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections in various parts of our country,” Gachagua said on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

This comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced that the by-elections would be conducted on November 27, 2025.

DCP has already named Edgar Busiega as its candidate for the Malava constituency by-election and Aden Mohammed as the candidate for the Banisa constituency.

Six constituencies are up for grabs, one senatorial seat and 16 ward seats in the upcoming by-elections.

The campaign period is slated to begin on October 8, 2025, and run until November 24, 2025.
