Kindiki breaks silence after Gachagua launches DCP Party

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has broken his silence after his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, unveiled his highly anticipated political party in readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a funeral ceremony of six of the 12 accident victims in Elburgon on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Kindiki took a swipe at Gachagua, noting that leaders must cease forming regional and tribal parties.
“You are aware of the recent political developments in the country, which is a good thing because we can’t all agree with each other all the time. People are free to hold different political opinions,” Kindiki observed.
Detests regional parties
“To those launching political parties, there is no problem. Everyone is allowed to form their own political party. However, refrain from saying that a political party is formed for a particular tribe or region, because you would be antagonising people,” he stated.
In a direct swipe at the opposition coalition members, Kindiki indicated that all the leaders in the outfit have had their opportunity to lead the nation in various capacities, but have nothing to show for it.
“Our democracy must be mature. All those making noise on the other side have had their opportunity to become leaders; they should show us what they did in office,” Kindiki noted.

The deputy president also observed that since he took office, he has faced criticism from a section of leaders who want him to oppose the government that he is a part of.
Undeterred
“The duty of the deputy president is not to oppose the government; my duty is to follow through with the presidential directives on development from start to completion,” Kindiki stated.
Gachagua unveiled his Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) Party on Thursday, May 15, 2025, morning after months of speculation.
The party is anchored on the slogan ‘Skiza Wakenya’ and marks his return to the political scene just weeks after his dramatic exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking to the press during the unveiling ceremony held in Lavington, Nairobi, Gachagua described the party as a home for all Kenyans who feel unheard under the current administration. He emphasised that DCP will prioritise inclusive leadership rooted in public feedback.
“I made a promise to unveil a new political party in May 2025. As you all know, I am a truthful man who keeps his word. Today, that promise is fulfilled,” Gachagua stated.
