Khalwale claims broad-based govt has sidelined Luhya community
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has continued his onslaught on the government, this time by tearing into the ruling United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) collaboration with the ODM under the broad-based government.
Taking to his X page on Friday, August 8, 2025, Khalwale bemoaned that the new arrangement was perceived as detrimental to the Luhya community, which he claims became increasingly sidelined.
The politician signalled a warning that the community will no longer be used as a ladder to capture power.
“Kwa sababu wameleta siasa mapema naona ODM imeshikana UDA yenye lileta hapa.“
“I want to tell you because they have started politics this early; I see ODM and the UDA that I brought here are now working together. In the arrangement, if you look keenly, there is nothing for us, even if you ask Mudavadi or Wetang’ula,” he stated.
He further signaled a new political outfit that would cater to and address the concerns of their people.
“Ndio namuomba that God has been nice to me to bring me this far,” Valuya Mtu asiwatumie tena. Nataka vile wameanza kujipanga ivo, mimi nmezungumza na Natambeya, na tunapanga yetu pia,”
“I want to plead with you that you let no one take advantage of you again. Now that they have started strategising, I have been in talks with Natembeya, and we are also hatching a plan for our people. If anyone wants us to work together, let him approach us,” he stated.
Hio mananeno walikuwa wanatumia kutupnage sa hizi nmetibua na hatutaenda ODM tena wala UDA,” he added.
His pronouncement comes barely a week after his major political declaration of contesting the region’s gubernatorial seat. Speaking on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Khalwale vowed to humiliate Governor Fernandes Barasa in the race for the county’s top job.

He opined that the incumbent Fernandes Barasa was handed the seat by his predecessor, Wycliffe Oparanya, and that the governor could not win against him in a free and fair election.
“Barasa boasts to us because he was gifted this seat by Oparanya. I will not tire of bringing resources to our county and holding the governor accountable,” Khalwale said.
Best in the country
“My time for becoming the governor is 2027, and I want to be the best governor in the Republic of Kenya.”
Khalwale, a fierce critic of Barasa, had earlier announced that he would do whatever it takes to unseat the governor, even if it means ditching his UDA Party.
“Nikitegemea hiyo UDA ni Chama ya rais, mlimsikia akisema hadharani alisema ya kwamba yeye na Barasa ni chanda na pete”
“If I depend on UDA, you know it is the president’s party; you heard him publicly stating that he and Barasa are bosom friends,” he added.
