Khalwale cautions govt against arresting him ahead of Malava by-election

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has warned the government of dire consequences should a plan to arrest him ahead of the by-elections materialise.

While addressing the media in Malava Constituency on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, after the withdrawal of his security, he said that there is a plan to arrest him together with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

Boni Khalwale began by praising the county security teams for how they have conducted themselves so far, even amid increasing political tensions, encouraging them to continue with the same spirit but warning them that should they arrest him, things won’t be normal.

Khalwale recalled an incident in the past during a similar exercise where he was arrested amid by-elections in Ikolomani Constituency, saying that things went out of hand and the police were forced to release him after two hours of being in detention.

He went on to tell them that if they want to arrest him, they should summon him instead to the nearest police station and not arrest him in a dramatic manner, telling them that they know very well where to find him and that a summon would have been enough, and that any attempt to arrest him in uncouth way will be met with resistance from the public.

“My security detail has been pulled without any explanation, and I want to make it clear: if this decision was meant to put me at risk or expose me, those responsible need to realize that every action has its consequences. I refuse to be intimidated. The struggle goes on.” Khalwale said.

Widhrawal of security

This comes after six police officers assigned to him were withdrawn due to his participation in the Malava by-elections. The same was extended to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, whose security detail was also withdrawn, with them being summoned to report to the nearest police station, including his driver.

Khalwale went on to state that he is ready for anything, will not be intimidated.

Malava byelection

This comes at a time when both Natembeya and Khalwale have been campaigning for Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako in the Malava Constituency by-elections slated for Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Their aim to popularize the united opposition’s candidate has not been rosy; it has been met with obstacles, with Natembeya being attacked in Kabuchai Constituency while addressing a crowd at area MP Majimbo Kalasinga’s home, where they were attacked by a rowdy group whom they linked to supporters of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Both have vowed to soldier on to ensure that their preferred candidate in the upcoming mini-polls wins and have likened the withdrawal of their security to a desperate move by the state to sway them.
