Keep off county affairs, Kiambu MCA’s tell UDA party heads

A section of Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) yesterday accused the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Veronica Maina of dictatorship and threats.

Led by Ndeiya ward MCA Nelson Munga, they said that the party through the SG was interfering with the affairs of the County Assembly by imposing its leadership on them.

Munga also alleged that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was part of the scheme of forcing

Aggrieved leaders

Members of the County Assembly to unpopular leaders against their wishes.  Addressing the press at the County Assembly grounds, they urged President William Ruto to rein in the party officials bent on killing democracy in the party.

The aggrieved civic leaders were reacting to two letters written by the SG indicating that the house leadership had been nominated by the party.

In the first letter dated September 26, 2022, Munga had been named as the majority leader with Dan Gitau as his deputy.

Godfrey Mucheke had been nominated as the chief whip and Francis Koina as his deputy.

The second letter dated September 27, 2022, which was approved by the County Assembly Speaker Charles Thiong’o, Godfrey Mucheke was nominated as the leader of the majority and Francis Koina his deputy.

The speaker approved the second list prompting rebellion from the Munga faction who demanded to be allowed to elect leaders of their choice.

However, maintaining that the party’s decision is irreversible.

Munga and his team dismissed the speaker’s assertion saying that it would not recognize the Mucheke team. He threatened to move to court and seek legal indulgence.
