Political activist Kasmuel has issued a stern warning to party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in accusing him of undermining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s leadership and the broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration.

In a video posted on X on December 24, 2025, McOure demanded that Sifuna choose between continuing as Secretary General or pursuing personal political ambitions, including what he described as positioning himself as a Luhya community leader in the Mulembe Nation.

McOure accused Sifuna of deliberately disrespecting ODM party leader Oburu Oginga during a recent event. He claimed Sifuna posted a video highlighting his role among Luhya leaders but failed to acknowledge Oburu’s presence, addressing Siaya Governor James Orengo instead.

“You addressed Governor Orengo directly as though he was the senior-most leader in that gathering, despite the fact that our party leader was there,” McOure stated.

He further alleged that Sifuna was “holding briefs” for individuals outside the party and taking actions that sabotage the broad-based arrangement between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

“Sifuna, you must decide whether you want to be the Secretary General of the ODM Party or a village elder advancing the interests of our political enemies and detractors. This is a warning from the youth to you and to leaders of your ilk,” read McOure’s X post.

This pact, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding in 2025 following former party leader Raila Odinga’s passing, aims to promote national unity and implement a 10-point governance agenda.

Stern warning

McOure reminded Sifuna that his position as Secretary General was by appointment, not election, and criticised him for rarely mobilizing in his home turf while speaking confidently in the Luo Nyanza region.

Highlighting past party setbacks, he accused Sifuna of political “chicanery” and issued a stern warning: “If you and your cabal continue to undermine the position of our party leader, Oburu Oginga, you will go. You will be the first one to go, and we will hound out all those cronies that you work with.”

He noted that party members would consider removing Sifuna at the upcoming National Delegates Convention if he did not align with leadership directives.

ODM leadership

McOure emphasised that ODM has only one leader, Senator Oburu Oginga, ratified in November 2025 following Raila Odinga’s death.

He also appealed to President Ruto to reinforce Oburu’s mandate and allow the youth to manage internal saboteurs. The confrontation adds to ongoing frictions since Odinga’s passing, with disputes over ODM’s commitment to the broad-based government and preparations for the 2027 elections.
