Orange Democratic Movement Youth League member Kasmuel McOure has singled out Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for attempting to overestimate his persona and position within the Orange party for his own personal gains.

Speaking to a local radio station on Friday, January 9, 2025, McOure downplayed the influence and importance of the embattled SG, describing his role as merely secretarial and subservient in the party hierarchy.

He posited that Sifuna cannot purport to give direction or any meaningful declaration as a subservient member within ODM.

“I am against Sifuna trying to posture as if he could give us presidential direction; only the party leader can do that. He is subservient to higher offices within the party, and additionally, we have other people with brilliant ideas whom I have not attacked,” he stated.

Pro- and Anti-Ruto factions

He also explained his contention and basis for calling out the embattled SG amid an unclear stance on which direction the party will take regarding the 2027 elections, a subject that has been trodden by other ODM members.

“The Sifuna faction is the weaker but much louder within ODM. On the other hand, we in the faction leading President Ruto’s reelection bid are the majority and the ones winning the ideological war,” he stated.

His remarks come after he also vowed to continue his onslaught against the embattled secretary general.

The outspoken youthful leader stated that he and the party’s youth members would continue to clamour for the removal of the SG to the very end and have him vacate his seat from ODM.

Must be dewhipped

“Sifuna must be dewhipped, and we will continue to lobby. We are making our case about it, as he has been used as a very dangerous mouthpiece, and for that, he has to leave his position as SG,” he explained.

McOure also doubled down on the onslaught against Sifuna, whom he also accused of holding the position illegally.

“He is holding that position unconstitutionally; he was not elected by the National Delegates Conference (NDC), and he is an affirmative action candidate,” he stated.

The ODM SG expressed readiness to hold out an olive branch to his rivals after being admonished by the late Raila Odinga’s spouse, Ida, on Wednesday, January 7, 2025.
