People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has unveiled Ndirangu Martin Wambugu, popularly known as Tinga Tinga, as its candidate for the forthcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election.

In a statement on her X account on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Karua expressed confidence in Wambugu’s leadership and ability to represent the interests of residents.

Karua noted that Wambugu’s entry into the party strengthens PLP’s political presence in Nyandarua County.

“Party Leader Hon. Martha Karua today welcomed Ndirangu Martin Wambugu (Tinga Tinga) to PLP. He joins as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election. Karibu PLP,” Karua wrote.

The by-election in the constituency was triggered by the death of former Ol Kalou MP David Njunguna Kiaraho, an event that has added a layer of solemnity even as political temperatures rise.

The Democratic for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has also announced that it will have a candidate in the forthcoming by-election.

Gachagua said that the party already has nine aspirants vying for the ticket.

Speaking in an interview with Kameme TV on Monday, April 20, 2026, Gachagua has promised his supporters that the party would hold free and fair nominations that would be transparent and democratic. He observed that DCP would like the people of Olkalou to end up settling on who will be the flagbearer in the party during the by-election.

“DCP will field a candidate in the Olkalou constituency by-elections. DCP so far has 9 candidates for the by-elections, and I want to guarantee the people of Olkalou free and fair nominations for the party. We want to give the people the chance to decide on their candidate who will be our flagbearer,” Gachagua said.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has also confirmed that UDA will have a candidate for the vacant seat in the constituency.

Kindiki told the opposition that the Ol Kalou by-election would be a forceful fight.  He challenged Gachagua, stating that, just as it was in the Mbeere North by-election in 2025, the contest in Ol Kalou would be fiercely contested.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to announce the dates for the parliamentary by-elections.
