Karen Nyamu says United Opposition driven by bitterness
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has criticised the United Opposition, describing it as uninspiring and united only by bitterness and vengeance, while reaffirming her support for President William Ruto.
In a Facebook post on January 31, Nyamu wrote: “The opposition today is so uninspiring. All these guys have only one thing in common. United by bitterness and vengeance.
“There may be one or two bright minds, Kalonzo looks sober though kazi ata hajui, Martha Karua was my role model growing up, Rigathi ni kipolitician give it to him, Malala kwa mdomo ako sawa kunishinda, but here bitterness is clearly driving the agenda.”
Nyamu has insisted that her loyalty to President William Ruto remains unwavering, saying, “I’m telling you even if I ever made a mistake and my party, UDA, showed me the door, you’d still see me supporting President William Ruto and you’d probably think I’m crazy. But I would never give bitterness space and join these.”
The remarks come as the United Opposition steps up activities ahead of planned rallies in Murang’a and Nyeri counties.

Planned rallies and church service
The opposition has scheduled a church service at Gitugi ACK Church at 9:00 a.m., followed by a “meet the people” rally at Gitugi Centre in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County. They will then proceed to Othaya town, Nyeri County, for a rally to make up for a postponed event.
The meetings will be led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, PLP leader Martha Karua.
Democratic Party leader JB Muturi, Jubilee presidential flagbearer Fred Matiang’i, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, DCP National Organising Secretary Mithika Linturi, and other aligned politicians.
During the January 25 incident, Gachagua was forced to flee through a bush, with bodyguards reportedly disguising themselves as clergy.
On January 30, opposition leaders met Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, demanding justice for those involved by February 16 and warning of nationwide demonstrations if no action is taken.
Preparation for 2027 elections
The coalition is also preparing for the 2027 General Elections. A two-day retreat is planned for February 12-13 to discuss coalition structures, select a name, and develop a framework for choosing the presidential flagbearer.
Countrywide tours will mobilise voter registration, with Wamalwa stating the flagbearer will be selected six months before the polls.
