Kaluma says bodyguard’s gun seized during chaos at Agoro Sare polling station
By Kiprono Keileb, November 27, 2025Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has accused rival political actors of sparking violence and attempting to suppress voter turnout during Thursday’s by-election, stating that his bodyguard’s gun was forcibly taken during the chaos at Agoro Sare Primary School.
Kaluma addressed the press outside the polling station after tensions escalated, leaving residents shaken and raising questions about security at one of the day’s hotspot centres.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, November 27, 2027, Kaluma said the confrontation began when individuals he believed were supporters of a rival candidate stormed the polling station area. He said they aimed to intimidate voters and disrupt the election environment.
“What they want to do is to suppress people and stop them from coming out to vote,” he stated.

Kaluma explained that he initially went out to receive Kasipul ODM’s aspirant Boyd Were, only to find himself surrounded by a group led by Kasipul by-election Independent candidate Philip Aroko.
“Philip Aroko came in personally to Agoro Sare Primary, and I went to receive him. I thought it was Boyd Were because I am his chief agent here for the ODM party, as you can see the accreditation card by IEBC,” he stated.
He said he remained in the area after being told that Were was on his way, but soon after, unfamiliar vehicles arrived and he mistakenly believed they were associated with his Boyd Were.
“I was to leave here, but Boyd Were told me he is coming here in the next 5 mins, in those 5 mins I saw vehicles coming in, and I thought those were Were’s vehicles,” he stated.
Kaluma said the individuals approached him aggressively before the situation escalated further.
“I went, we greeted one another, and he told his people to deal with me immediately,” he stated
Bodyguard’s firearm missing
The MP then stated that the most alarming incident occurred when his bodyguard’s firearm was taken during the scuffle.
“The bad things they did are, on Aroko’s instructions, they have taken my security’s gun, and it was handed over to him before he left. Aroko has the gun belonging to my security,” he stated.
Police officers were deployed immediately to restore calm as voting continued.
