Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has set clear conditions for any potential meeting with President William Ruto, stating he would only consider such an encounter for specific national interests.

Speaking during a book launch on Saturday, March 15, 2025, Kalonzo rubbished reports that he had secretly visited State House for discussions with Ruto, terming them as propaganda meant to mislead Kenyans.

“Let them stop saying Kalonzo has gone to State House to meet with Ruto. The lies have become too much. I saw them announcing everywhere, ‘Oh, you’re here, but Kalonzo is now at State House.’ I said pray for me,” the former Vice President stated.

Kalonzo clarified that he would only consider a meeting with the Head of State if it was to deliberate on the appointment of an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson who would oversee the next general election fairly.

“I don’t mind if we meet to say, ‘This is who will be the IEBC Chairman.’ We can look at each other there. Someone who won’t be misused – we can meet over that item alone,” he said.

However, the Wiper leader emphasized that aside from this specific issue, any substantial political engagement would have to wait until 2027, when he expects a transfer of power.

“But beyond that, I’ll wait for 2027 when, just as Uhuru Kenyatta handed the sword to Ruto, we will meet with Ruto on that day, and he will give us that sword – handing over the instruments of power. That is the decent way to do it,” he declared.

The opposition leader also questioned President Ruto’s electoral legitimacy, suggesting that the President would not win if elections were held now.

“To be honest, even as we speak today, if votes were cast tomorrow, would there really be someone called Ruto as President? Even he knows that well. So they shouldn’t be worried,” Musyoka stated.

Viral video of meeting with Ruto

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Kalonzo firmly denied rumours that he met with President William Ruto.

He took to social media to dispel the rumour triggered by a viral video showing an interaction between him and Ruto at State House.

In his statement, Kalonzo clarified that the viral clip was shot on March 9, 2024, during the presentation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report at State House.

He labelled the rumours as a desperate attempt to tarnish his image and create division within his political alliance with Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Rigathi Gachagua.

“Why are they so panicky? The People’s Loyal Coalition will never be a party to the biggest betrayal of Kenyans for political expediency and temporary comfort,” Kalonzo stated.
