Kalonzo: Removing Sifuna from ODM undermines Raila’s ideals
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 28, 2026Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) manages to remove the Nairobi Senator, it would be equivalent to discarding the ideals that the late Raila Odinga stood for.
Speaking in an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast, aired on Friday, March 27, 2026, the former vice president heaped praise on the Nairobi senator, saying that he greatly admires him.
According to Kalonzo, Edwin Sifuna has long enjoyed the confidence of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and after his demise, there have been spirited efforts to eject him from the Orange Party.

Kalonzo further stated that ODM without Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is no longer the ODM that Raila formed and led for two decades. He described it as a “William Ruto ODM” or a body without a soul.
“If they throw Sifuna out of ODM, my submission is they have thrown out the ideas Raila Odinga had. That’s a different ODM. If people like Osotsi and Babu are thrown out, we know, yes, that is not Raila’s. ODM, it will be a different ODM, maybe a RutoS ODM.”
The Wiper leader continued praising Sifuna, saying that, just like the Gen Z youths who held the Kenyan flag during their protests, Sifuna embodies the same spirit of patriotism. He added that should ODM throw him out, the United Opposition is ready to work with him, emphasising that Sifuna’s boldness and fearlessness are what the country needs.
Kalonzo also stated that he will nurture the ODM rebels, especially Sifuna, to take on future roles in politics and leadership. According to him, Sifuna does not require much guidance, as he is already “schooled by the Raila Odinga School of Politics”.
Sifuna’s SG ouster

This statement comes two days after the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal quashed the case seeking to remove him as Secretary-General of ODM, ruling that it does not have the mandate to hear the case and diverting it to the party’s internal resolution mechanism before it can be taken to the courts.
