Wiper Party Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has once again revisited the untimely death of former Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, maintaining that the demise was a deliberate targeted action and not a mere accident.

In an interview with a local TV station on Sunday, December 21, 2025, Kalonzo stuck to his earlier convictions that there was an elaborate plan to eliminate the general in a wider scheme of targeting succession in the military top brass.

‘Taken out’

“I maintain that general Ogolla was taken out. How do you fly the commander general of the Kenyan Defence Force in an 80-year-old aircraft to go and inspect a primary school under construction in a bandit-infested area?” he posed.

Kalonzo made the remarks while decrying the increased militarisation by Ruto’s government, which he claims is gradually turning Kenya into a police state.

The opposition leader further pointed out the existence of shoddy undertakings around the military recruitment processes.

We have a very professional army, and my message to Ruto is he can mess around with anything but not the Tonje rules that govern succession in the military,” he added.

Kalonzo’s fresh remarks on Ogolla’s death come after he punched holes in the government’s version and account of the former CDF’s demise.

In his statement on Friday, April 19, 2024, Kalonzo called on the State to provide proper security and medical attention for two survivors in the chopper crash that killed Ogolla.

Kalonzo demands inquiry

He lamented about what he termed as an unprecedented breach of security for the departed CDF while questioning his last assignment before his death.

“The following are the key questions that Kenyans need answers to:

“1. Is it routine for the CDF to inspect classroom construction, or was it a directive from somewhere?

“2. Was it normal for him to be in a chopper with so many other military personnel?

“3. Was this his designated chopper, and if not where was his designated chopper?

“These are some of the urgent questions that must be answered, and Kenyans deserve answers. We therefore call a time-bound public inquiry, and no effort or resources should be spared, including securing the services of international experts or investigators to get to the bottom of this matter, as it raises grave concerns,” Kalonzo said.

Ogolla’s death

President William Ruto on Thursday, April 18, 2024, announced General Ogolla’s death to the public after the commander died in the course of duty alongside nine other officers: Major George Benson Magondu, Brigadier Swale Saidi, Colonel Duncan Keittany, Lietuentant-Colonel David Sawe, Captain Soso Mohamed, Captain Hilary Litali, Senior Sgt John Kinyua Mureithi, Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi, and Sergeant Rose Nyawira.

He was the first Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) top boss to die in office in a chopper crash.
