Kabogo rebukes Gachagua, Senator Methu over disrespectful remarks against Ruto

By , April 9, 2026

Information, Communication, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, accusing them of demonstrating a lack of respect for President William Ruto.

Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Kabogo condemned the behavior of the two leaders during the recent funeral service of the late MP David Karaho in Ol Kalou.

Kabogo stated that even if individuals do not personally like William Ruto, they are obligated to respect the office he holds, as it is an institution mandated by the Kenyan people.

“Even if you do not like William Ruto as a person, you must respect the office he holds, and that office is given to him by us Kenyans, including yourselves. He is not the president of a society or a community, he is the president of the Republic of Kenya,” Kabogo stated.

Kabogo described the behavior of Senator Methu and his associates as uncalled for and a shame.

“Senator Methu and the baptized Wamunyoro, the way they behaved, it was uncalled for, it is not necessary, and I hope that from here going forward we shall style up,” Kabogo said.

Gachagua – Methu remarks on Ruto

Drama unfolded in Nyandarua on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the requiem mass of the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Kiaraho, when the area senator John Methu took to the podium to speak.

Methu’s microphone had to be briefly switched off after he started lecturing President William Ruto on the face.

The lawmaker started by claiming that the late Kiaraho had warned leaders from the region against joining the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over claims that it was a bad party, before he quickly turned on the president, saying that he does not fear him.

Rigathi Gachagua also told President William Ruto that, despite his removal from office, he still enjoys strong support from the Mt Kenya region, warning that political loyalty in the area cannot be easily erased.
