Kabando wa Kabando to UDA: Ol Kalou seat is gone, no matter what you do
By David Nthua, July 8, 2026Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando has told the United Democratic Alliance that its bid to win the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat is already doomed.
Kabando told K24 TV on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, that neither President William Ruto nor UDA could stop the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate from winning the upcoming by-election.
“In Ol Kalou, no matter what Ruto and his team do, no matter what UDA does, Ol Kalou is gone,” Kabando said.
“The outcome next year will be indicated next week when UDA loses massively to the DCP candidate in Ol Kalou Constituency of Nyandarua County.”
Kabando, who previously represented Mukurweini Constituency, said the by-election would offer an early indication of the political direction Mt Kenya could take ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Cabinet presence questioned
Kabando accused Cabinet secretaries and other senior government officials of increasing their activities in Ol Kalou as the by-election approaches.
“The Cabinet has mushroomed in Ol Kalou to do things that are clearly meant to influence a by-election next week,” he said.
His remarks follow criticism from opposition figures over recent empowerment programmes in the constituency.
Residents have received various items during the programmes, including mattresses, bedsheets and gas cylinders. Cash assistance has also featured in some political and community meetings.
Government leaders have presented such activities as development and empowerment initiatives.
Opposition politicians, however, have questioned their timing and linked them to the approaching vote.
Kabando did not identify the specific Cabinet secretaries he was referring to or present evidence that the distributions had violated electoral laws.

Battle for Ol Kalou
The Ol Kalou seat became vacant following the death of MP David Njuguna Kiaraho on March 29, 2026. Kiaraho had represented the constituency on a Jubilee Party ticket since 2013.
UDA is seeking to capture the seat, while DCP views the contest as an opportunity to demonstrate its growing influence in the Mt Kenya region.
Kabando maintained that government resources and last-minute interventions would not change the outcome.
UDA and the government had not responded to his remarks by the time of publication.
