Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando Wa Kabando has expressed optimism in the opposition against the current administration headed by President William Ruto.

Banking on the support from the younger generation, Wa Kabando, via an X statement on Wednesday , September 24, 2025, said the opposition will overcome the hurdles of trickery, opportunism, and greed in their quest to unseat President William in the 2027 presidential election.

”Let me say this. In opposition ranks – activism and party officialdoms – we’re a very tiny number genuinely committed to the fights of outing Ruto. So much trickery, opportunism & greed. Yet, we’ll overcome. Overwhelming majority of Kenyans + indomitable GenZs guarantee,” he said.

Kabando Wa Kabando’s remarks come at a moment when the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has been voted as the most famous party in Kenya ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to a survey conducted by TIFA and released on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, UDA garnered 16 per cent support, with a majority of Kenyans (31%) expressing no preference for any political party.

With the possibility of UDA and Raila Odinga’s led outfit, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) bromance is predicted to go beyond the 2027 polls; the opposition will have to play their cards well to oust the incumbent. TIFA has also announced that ODM is second with a preference rating of 13 per cent.

As Wa Kabando admits difficulties in the opposition’s journey to challenge for the presidency in 2027, TIFA has also revealed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ranks third with an approval of nine per cent. The party officially entered the Kenyan political fray on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Rigathi Gachagua formed his own political party to challenge his former boss, President Ruto, following his exit from UDA through the heated 2024 impeachment.

Wa Kabando declines Ruto’s invitation

Meanwhile, Kabando Wa Kabando’s firm stance against President William Ruto and his administration comes days after revealing details surrounding his decision to snub an invitation from President William Ruto some time before. In a statement on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Kabando indicated that cosying up to Ruto would have emboldened him to continue ruling in the manner that he does.

“President Ruto recently directly invited me to State House. All my confidantes advised I honour, to show courtesy, and perhaps benefit financially or a state job. Soul-searched in 5 5-day countdown, then politely declined, offering him my sincere thoughts about what he needs to do,” Kabando noted.

“Meeting Ruto privately would have denied me any moral authority to criticise his governance tragedies. I want to be a free spirit to pronounce public interests unhindered, uncompromised. Chicanery is the bane of Kenya’s politics. Those trooping to the State House are enabling Ruto.”
