Jubilee’s Kioni urges MPs to vote against finance bill

By , June 13, 2024

Jubilee party secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni has urged MPs to shoot down the 2024 Finance Bill, saying ordinary citizens will suffer if it passes.

Leaders, he said, should heed the voices of Kenyans, who oppose the bill because the proposed taxes will overburden them.
Speaking in Murang’a county at a public forum, Kioni said if MPs pass the bill, that will amount to betraying the people who elected them.

“Members of the public have already given their views on the finance bill and they are opposed to it and the leaders should heed their voice,” he said.

Kenyans have already been pushed to the wall in the current difficult economy, he added. He cited proposed taxes on common commodities, saying this is an attempt to exploit ordinary people by a government that should protect the interests of the people.

“Taxation of common commodities is total exploitation of the common person and we won’t relent in our push to have it shot down,” said Kioni.
