Nyandarua Senator John Methu has been appointed as the new Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General, replacing Hezron Obaga. The changes were made at the DCP party headquarters after a long National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Rigathi Gachagua further noted that Methu, since he is in the Senate courtesy of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and after advice from party lawyers, will hold the Secretary General position in an acting capacity until further notice when the decision is fully ratified.

Gachagua went ahead, stating that the party will forward his name to the Registrar of Political Parties soon.

“John Methu is the designated secretary general of the DCP party; from today, he will be the DCP spokesman, and his name will soon be forwarded to the registrar of political parties for due confirmation.”

The DCP party leader further stated that the party’s NEC has also designated John Methu and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia to spearhead the Ol Kalou by-election campaign and ensure that the DCP candidate, Samuel Ngotho, wins the mini-poll slated for July 16, 2026.

John Methu, whom Rigathi Gachagua has many times regarded as a reincarnation of the late John Murumbi, who was assassinated for condemning the government over its excesses, in his maiden speech following the appointment to the party spokesman position, stated that he will soon invite the media to explain to Kenyans the party’s future plans.

DCP’s growth

Gachagua also spoke on the progress of the party, saying that as of now, 34 aspirants have expressed interest in gubernatorial seats using DCP tickets in 2027, with 98 aspirants for senatorial seats, 764 aspirants for MP and Woman Representative positions, and 11,564 aspirants for County Assembly seats across the country.

Gachagua further noted that the party has registered a membership of 4,576,345 persons as members of the DCP party.

John Methu has been a close ally of the DCP leader for the recent past. His recent outburst during the burial of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho threw him into the limelight, making him enjoy a few days of clout after he openly told President William Ruto that he respects him but is not afraid of him.

This later became the soundbite of the country for days, with political analysts such as Herman Manyora stating that his speech in front of Ruto had made his political star shine brighter beyond Nyandarua County, positioning him as a possible future Mt. Kenya kingpin should Rigathi Gachagua decide to hang his boots.
