Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has reiterated his commitment to championing people-centred policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of ordinary Kenyans through grassroots engagement.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Rutto said continuous interaction with wananchi was helping shape a governance approach that addresses the daily challenges facing households, farmers, traders and small-scale entrepreneurs.

The former governor noted that there was a need to re-examine policies affecting ordinary citizens to ensure they promote economic growth from the grassroots level.

“Our daily engagement with the people continues to shape our resolve to reconnect governance with the everyday realities of wananchi at the grassroots,” Rutto stated.

Prioritising the needs of local communities.

He added that his focus includes improving access to services, infrastructure development, support for local businesses and creating opportunities for youth, women and persons living with disabilities.

Rutto further stressed the need for deliberate efforts to stimulate economic growth through what he described as a “bottom-up” approach that prioritises the needs of local communities.

“From relooking into policies that target households, farmers, traders and small-scale entrepreneurs to reshaping access to services, improved infrastructure, support for local businesses and opportunities for youth, women and persons with disabilities, among other key policies, we deliberately seek to stimulate growth from the bottom up,” Rutto said.

Warning against political temperature

Rutto has also called for calm in the country’s political space, warning leaders against inflammatory language that could heighten tensions as political activity begins to pick up ahead of the next election cycle.

In his statement shared on Facebook on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Rutto noted that recent political exchanges among leaders have become increasingly heated, raising concern that continued blame games and tribal undertones could destabilise national unity if not checked early. He emphasised the need for restraint and unity among all communities.

“Tunataka Kenya iliyo moja; we don’t want some rhetoric to go beyond certain levels, ituletee shida. All communities belong to Kenya, and we are all one. We want to live in peace. I urge all the political leaders to reduce the temperature. Kenyans are no longer tribalistic; they now know that they are Kenyans, and they want peace,” the statement reads.
