Irungu Nyakera explains how Nairobi county govt can end garbage crisis
Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party’s Nairobi Patron, Irungu Nyakera, has said that Nairobi needs a hands-on leader who can restore dignity to the city by addressing the persistent garbage crisis and poor service delivery that continues to frustrate residents.
In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, October 26, 2025, Nyakera said he had interacted with residents of Dagoretti North and South during a Radio Citizen live show held at the Dagoretti South Empowerment Centre. The session brought together local MCAs, NGCDF managers, and community leaders to assess how the Nairobi County Government has been handling public services.

“Yesterday, we met residents of Dagoretti North and South during a Radio Citizen live show at the Dagoretti South Empowerment Centre. The session brought together local MCAs, NGCDF managers, and community leaders to discuss the state of service delivery in Nairobi,” Nyakera said.
He said residents expressed strong disappointment over the county’s failure to deliver basic services, with many pointing to the piles of uncollected garbage that have turned estates and markets into dumping zones.
“Residents voiced strong frustration over the Nairobi County Government’s failure to deliver basic services. Key concerns included continued garbage dumping in Kawangware, poorly equipped hospitals, unchecked licensing of liquor outlets, insecurity due to lack of street lighting, and plans to repossess private land along the Nairobi River without proper consultation,” he added.

The DCP Patron said that the voices of ordinary Nairobians reflect a city struggling under poor planning and lack of accountability, adding that the county needs a leader who can unite teams, listen to residents, and implement real change.
“Listening to these concerns strengthened my resolve that Nairobi needs a manager, someone who understands what it takes to bring people together and deliver real solutions. I am ready to be that manager,” Nyakera said.
His remarks come at a time when complaints about poor garbage collection, insecurity, and mismanagement have intensified across various parts of Nairobi. Nyakera’s message highlights growing calls for effective leadership and practical solutions to the capital’s deepening urban challenges.
