By , April 7, 2026

The race to replace former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno has intensified as the polling day nears.

Big-name parties and newcomers are fighting for the Constituency seat in a high-stakes contest that is shaping up ahead of the by-election on May 15.

The by-election that was triggered by Ng’eno’s death in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, has drawn significant national attention, with parties keen to secure influence in the South Rift region.

Although the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially scheduled the by-election for May 14, political parties are now locked in fierce endorsement battles and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the May mid-month timelines.

Heavyweights enter the ring

Among the key contenders is businessman David Keter, who clinched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket after a tightly contested nomination, positioning himself as a frontrunner in the race.

David Kipsang Keter, a three-time opponent of former Member of Parliament (MP) Johana Ng’eno, has won the Emurua Dikirr United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary party ticket after a nomination process in 96 polling stations.

Keter garnered 13,759 votes against Bernard Kipkoech Ng’eno, the former MP’s personal assistant, who got 13,394 votes in a hotly contested poll in a constituency that is a political hotbed.

He was declared the winner at 8:45 pm on Friday, March 27, 2026.

On the other hand, the opposition landscape is also taking shape, with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) fronting Vincent Kibet Rotich as its candidate. The party has already planned a major rally to consolidate support, underscoring the growing political stakes in the constituency.

The DCP endorsed Vincent Rotich in the upcoming Emurua Dikirr Constituency parliamentary by-election.

Speaking during the endorsement ceremony at the DCP headquarters on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua revealed that the party will give support to the candidate.

During the meeting, the former deputy president handed over the certificate to the aspirant, whom he referred to as a “young man,” and called upon the local community to offer him their full support.

“kwa hivyo wacha tumpatie certificate yake. Kwa hivyo mimi nimeshukuru sana huyu kijana mwende msaidie,” Gachagua said.

The by-election is expected to attract intense political interest in the constituency, which has about 44,040 registered voters, hence the smallest of Narok county’s six constituencies.

Political parties are expected to intensify campaigns in the coming days, with rallies, clan endorsements, and grassroots outreach dominating the agenda.

Planned rallies in the constituency

President William Ruto congratulated Keter, popularly known as Dollarline, after he won the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nomination for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election.

In a statement posted on X on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the President pledged support to Keter as he prepares to fly the party’s flag in the by-election scheduled for May 14.

“Congratulations, David Keter aka Dollarline, on your victory in yesterday’s UDA party nominations in Emurua Dikirr Constituency. You have our unqualified support as you carry the party’s flag into the by-election,” Ruto stated.

The DCP has announced a rally, which is expected to serve as a key endorsement platform for Vincent Kibet Rotich, the DCP candidate vying for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election.

“Venue; Emurua Dikirr Uhuru Grounds. Itakuwa moto kama pasi. Tukutane Wednesday, 08, april, 2026. Mega Rally, for Hon Vincent Kibet Rotich MP Emurua Dikir,” DCP TV X post read in part.
