For the last few months, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has been giving mixed signals of joining various political divides.

There was a period political commentators thought that he was headed to the Hustler Nation headed by Deputy President William Ruto due to his attacks on the government and representation of the DP at various functions.

Muturi has also been evasive in his engagement with the One Kenya Alliance’s principals including Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Martha Karua (Narc Kenya), Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) and Gideon Moi (KANU).

After he engaged with various political divides, Muturi has decided to solo in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During the Democratic Party’s National Delegates Convention (his party), held at Nairobi’s Bomas of Kenya, Muturi said that his party will not seek any coalition with other parties ahead of the August polls.

Muturi said that his party (DP) will only join a political coalition once he wins the presidency. Muturi who insisted that he will be on the ballot said that he can only enter a post-coalition agreement with other parties.

Muturi said that he has declined to join either Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja or DP Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza despite being promised a share in government should either side win the elections.

“I have been told it is a two-horse race and if I am to get anywhere, I MUST join with one of the two horses or I stand no chance. I was told to choose the lesser of the two devils and then get a share of government but I declined,” Muturi said.

Muturi further took a swipe at politicians he accused of changing their political allegiance from one party to another. He claimed that such leaders are only looking for power yet they don’t have a stand for anything.

“Look at Jubilee now, many parties came together but lacked in honesty, respect for one another and a common purpose for the people of Kenya now the country is seeing an increase in the political activities, to a point where everything is being politized,” Muturi said.

Adding: “We are seeing politicians changing parties like underwear, some have gone to the other party and come back to where they started. Everyone is looking to be on the winning team, others are being lured by the highest bidder, none of them seems to stand for anything.”
