In a gazette notice dated, October 28, 2022, the electoral commission announced that the by-election for the areas will be held on January 5, 2023.

“By-Elections for Members of National Assembly, Kandara and Garissa Township Constituencies, Member of Senate, Elgeyo Marakwet County and Member for Shella Ward, Lamu County Assembly scheduled to be held on Thursday, 5th January 2023,” the notice reads in parts.
