IEBC denies Wiper, UDA candidates clearance for Nguu/Masumba Ward by-election
IEBC has declined to clear three candidates for Nguu/Masumba Ward by-election after the trio failed to provide requisite documents.
The three, Eshio Mwaiwa of Wiper Party, Daniel Kivuva of UDA and an independent candidate Timothy Maneno, appeared before the IEBC officials on Wednesday August 25, at different intervals but none of them met the minimum requirements.
Sources told this writer that Mwaiwa was the first candidate to meet IEBC officials but was sent back for presenting a fake EACC clearance.
Others lacked documents, which are yet to be established, hence could not be cleared as well.
The candidates have up to Thursday, August 26, 2021, to put their first feet forward for October 14 mini-poll.
“We have had a peaceful first day of the nomination and tomorrow will be the final day which closes exactly at 4:00 pm,” IEBC constituency returning officer Moreen Oyaro said.
The by-election has been occasioned by the death of Harrison Ngui following a grisly road accident in July.
The by-election is expected to be a battle between Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Deputy President William Ruto.
The late Ngui was elected on a Wiper party ticket.
